Encouraging volunteerism and community service in Tennessee
Friends of Volunteer Tennessee is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to support the programs and services of Volunteer Tennessee including fundraising, managing donations, overseeing grants, training services, and supporting the Tennessee Conference on Volunteerism and Service-Learning and the Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards.
The mission of Volunteer Tennessee is to encourage volunteerism and community service.
Volunteer Tennessee is the 25-member bipartisan citizen board appointed by the Governor to oversee AmeriCorps programs, manage the Tennessee Serves Network, promote service-learning opportunities and foster community service initiatives and partnerships in which people of all ages and backgrounds engage in addressing the educational, public safety, environmental and other human needs in the Volunteer State.
The Governor's Volunteer Stars Awards (GVSA) is an initiative from Volunteer Tennessee that seeks to recognize outstanding volunteers from each of Tennessee's 95 counties.
Since 2008, participating counties conduct a call for nominations and recognize one outstanding youth and one outstanding adult volunteer.
The Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards also recognizes one business and one non-profit from each of Tennessee’s three Grand Regions for their outstanding community involvement and service.
The Tennessee Conference on Volunteerism and Service-Learning is the Volunteer State's leading event for organizations, educators, and individuals engaged in service and focused on making change in their communities.
The annual event aims to increase service and volunteerism across Tennessee. The conference will encourage service leaders and participants to collaborate to address needs in Tennessee while utilizing service as a vehicle for education and change.
We are challenging our participants to understand the impact of utilizing service as a vehicle for community change.
The Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA) is the leading credential for volunteer engagement professionals in the world. By obtaining this certification, you hold proof of commitment and expertise in the field.
